Self-driving to the inland sea beach is only for confident off-road drivers. The dunes shift with the wind, tracks are unmarked and phone signal can be weak. If you go, follow these rules:
- Never go alone. Travel in a convoy of at least two four-wheel-drives, led by someone who knows the route.
- Check your rental contract. Many rental companies forbid off-road driving, and insurance often does not cover it.
- Lower your tyre pressure at Sealine and reinflate before returning to the highway.
- Carry recovery gear: air compressor, tow strap, shovel, spare tyre and traction boards.
- Start with a full tank and download offline maps before leaving Mesaieed.
- Watch the tide. Some tracks run close to the waterline and can flood at high tide.
- Respect the reserve. Khor Al Adaid is a protected nature reserve, so stay on existing tracks and take all rubbish home.
